Asheville - Ruth Masters Beck, 82, of 57 Culvern St. died Sunday, January 12, 2003 at the Laurels of Greentree Ridge. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was a member of Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church. During her years in the food service industry, she worked at the Battery Park Hotel, Grove Park Inn and the Sheraton Hotel. She enjoyed volunteering with Meals on Wheels and at St. Josephs Hospital Mrs. Beck was the daughter of the late Abraham Lincoln Masters and Lucy Hampton Masters and the wife of the late Joseph William Beck who died in 1970. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Cecil and Walter Masters. Surviving are her daughter, Joanna Beck Gentile and husband Joseph of Tarzana, CA; son, William Cecil Beck and wife June of Fairview; granddaughters, Anna Elizabeth Beck and Erin Ruth Beck of Weaverville; great grandsons, Andrew Wayne Kuykendall and Stephen Tyler Kuykendall of Weaverville; step grandchildren Jenny and Jason Riddle of Fairview; sisters, Arlee Banks of Asheville and Louise Gaddy and husband Lee Roy of Candler; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Masters of Asheville and Peggy Masters of Leicester; adopted sister , Lois Glenn of Asheville. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday at Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church with the Revs. Perry Miller and Daniel Gaddy officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 PM Wednesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
