RUTH BRYANT RICE, 72, OF 141 ELKWOOD AVENUE DIED WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 3, 2001 AT THE MOUNTAIN AREA HOSPICE SOLACE CENTER FOLLOWING AN EXTENDED ILLNESS. A LIFELONG RESIDENT OF BUNCOMBE COUNTY. SHE RETIRED FROM THE A & P TEA COMPANY AFTER 30 YEARS OF SERVICE AND WAS A MEMBER OF PLEASANT HILL BAPTIST CHURCH. SHE WAS A DAUGHTER OF THE LATE WILLIAM T. AND ESTELLE LAURA HENSLEY BRYANT AND THE WIFE OF THE LATE RICHARD T. RICE. SHE WAS ALSO PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HER SON, RICHARD T. RICE, JR. AND FIVE BROTHERS. SURVIVING ARE HER SISTER, FRANCES GILLESPIE OF ASHEVILLE; BROTHER, WORTH BRYANT OF ASHEVILLE AND SEVERAL NIECES AND NEPHEWS. FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT 11 A.M. FRIDAY AT ANDERS-RICE FUNERAL HOME WITH THE REV. ENOCH BALL, JR. OFFICIATING. BURIAL WILL BE IN WEST MEMORIAL PARK, WEAVERVILLE. THE FAMILY WILL RECEIVE FRIENDS ONE HOUR PRIOR TO SERVICES AT THE FUNERAL HOME. IN LIEU OF FLOWERS MEMORIALS MAY BE MADE TO MOUNTAIN AREA HOSPICE SOLACE CENTER, P.O. BOX 16, ASHEVILLE, N.C. 28801.
