Asheville - Ruby Mae Campbell Penley, 72, of 9 Skyland Circle died Thursday September 12, 2002 at St. Josephs Hospital following a period of declining health. A native of Gilmer County, West Virginia, she had resided in Buncombe County since 1952. Mrs. Penley retired in 1988 as a school teacher from the N.C. Juvenile Evaluation Center after 20 years of service and was formerly employed with Sealtest Dairy as a laboratory technician for 13 years. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church where member of the Sunshine Club. She was the daughter of the late A. R. and Elsie Niday Campbell and the wife of the late Kermit Penley who died December 10, 1998. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Betty Jean Campbell Grapes and brothers, O.S. Campbell and Claude W. Campbell. Surviving are her son, David Penley of Asheville; brother, Willis R. Campbell of Burnsville, West Virginia and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Sunday at Victory Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Sprinkle officiating. Burial will be in Elk Mountain Cemetery with C.W. Campbell, Jeff Campbell, Ken Schneider, Lester Bullock, Lee Cagle and Gary Penley serving as pallbearers, The family will receive friends from 7 to 9:00 P.M. Saturday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
