Roy F. Smith

Asheville - Roy Foch Smith, 83, of the WNC Baptist Home, died Friday March 1, 2002 at St. Josephs Hospital. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a W.W.II veteran and retired in 1965 from the U.S. Air Force as a Senior Master Sergeant after 23 years of service. He also retired in 1981 from U.N.C.A. as maintenance supervisor. He was a son of the late William Jesse and Dovie Delcinia Davis Smith and the husband of the late Gisela Henrietta Frank Smith who died in 1984. Surviving are his daughters, Patricia Diana Wadley of Mansfield, Oh. and Yolanda Joyce Goodnough of Dover, Del.; son, Ronald Bruce Smith of Asheville; sister, Effie Williams of Asheville; 2 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Dean Huggins officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park with military graveside rites conducted by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Volunteer Memorial Team.
