Asheville - Roy Edward Crowder, 79, of 730 Olivette Rd. died Sunday, September 16, 2001 at the VA Medical Center, Oteen. A native of Madison County, he had resided in Buncombe County since 1946. He was formerly employed with American Enka Corp. for 22 years and with Ames Associates Building Co. for many years. Mr. Crowder was a WW II US Army veteran, having served in the 91st Artillery Division, Battery B, 346th Field Artillery Battalion. He was awarded the American Theater Campaign Medal, the EAMET Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of New Liberty Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and Trustee. He was the son of the late Herman G. and Effie Helen Fox Crowder. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Glennis Rice. Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Margaret Ann Bailey Crowder of the home; son, Roy Edward Eddie Crowder, II and wife Janice of Asheville; daughter, Denise Ann Huntley and husband Rick of Asheville; sisters, Alma Williams of Black Mtn., Ava Langford of Asheville, Helen Quakenbush and Wilma Evans, both of Leicester, Ruth Edmonds of Charleston, SC, Ora Mae Laws of Florida and Indiana, and Leota Brown of Enka; brother, Walter Luther Crowder of Indiana; grandchildren, Neal Huntley, Nalina Brenzel, and Eric Davis; great granddaughters, Makaela and Addison Brenzel. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday at New Liberty Baptist Church with the Revs. Garry Rogers, Danny Little, and Brad Parker officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Buncombe County Veterans Council/Volunteer Memorial Team. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 PM Tuesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
