Ross E. Buckner, Sr.

Leicester - Ross Elbert Buckner, Sr., 89, of Parham Road passed away Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at the Brian Center of Weaverville. A native of Norman, Oklahoma, he was raised in Madison County and had resided in Buncombe County since 1971. He retired in 1983 as a Salesman with Caldwells Well Drilling Company and formerly was a Building Contractor in Norfolk, Virginia and was of the Baptist faith. He was a U.S. Army WWII Veteran. Mr. Buckner was the son of the late Elbert Buckner and Harriett Louise Waddell Buckner and husband of Hester Iowa Strickland Buckner who died January 23, 1999. He was also preceded in death by his infant brother, Edwin Leroy Buckner and sister, Geraldine Buckner Moore. Surviving are his son, Ross E. Buckner, Jr. and wife Kathleen and grandson, Everette Baker all of Weaverville and one great grandson. Funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Sunday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Honeycutt officiating. Burial will follow in Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Hot Springs with military graveside rites conducted by Mars Hill Memorial Team Post #5483. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.
