Fairview– Ronald “Bud” Chandler passed into the arms of his loving Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday, December 12th at his home just a few weeks shy of his 91st birthday. His FAITH has been made SIGHT! A native of Buncombe County, he had resided in Henderson County for many years. Mr. Chandler was the son of the late George Dewey Chandler and Gertrude Brooks Chandler. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Agnes Corn Chandler who died December 25, 2010 and a sister, Rowena Johnson. Mr. Chandler was a Korean War Veteran of the US Army and a longtime member and deacon at Fruitland Baptist Church where he loved his church family dearly. He retired as a Sgt. from the Asheville Police Department in 1988. He loved to work on cars and owned a garage in Asheville before becoming a Police Officer. He held his dealers license most of his life and was the go to man in Fruitland for a good dependable used car. Surviving are his wife Shirley Trantham, whom he married January 2, 2013; sister, Lucille Chandler; niece (whom he considered a daughter) Shelley Floyd, her husband (whom he considered a son) Steve Floyd and their children (whom he considered his grandchildren and he was their “Papa”) Breanna Floyd, Charlie Floyd, and Chandler Floyd; step daughter, Linda Bates and husband, Mark; 4 step grandchildren and 6 step great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 2pm Wednesday at Fruitland Baptist Church with Rev. Craig Stepp and Dr. Mike Smith officiating. Entombment will follow at Shepherd Memorial Park with military honors conducted by the NC National Guard. The family will visit with friends 1 hour prior to services. He was blessed with a long and happy life and was loved and respected by his family and friends. His absence will definitely be felt.
