Roger Williams, Jr., 90, passed away Friday, May 29, 2015 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was the son of the late Roger Williams, Sr. and Mildred Marie Bradley. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Helen Marie Sloop Williams. Mr. Williams was a U.S. Army Veteran having served in Normandy during WWII and received a Purple Heart Award. He was very active in his church, Crossroads Assembly of God, for more than 35 years and was currently the Head Elder of the church. He was a co-owner of Williams Feed Store for many years after which he worked for Radio Shack for 15 years until going to work for Tractor Supply until October of last year. He also was an avid Ham Radio Operator and his call sign was KD4CI. He is survived by his daughter, Brenda Harper and husband Ken of Woodfin; granddaughters: Kimberly Olinger and husband Matt, and Tracie Dowd and husband Kevin all of Asheville; great grandchildren: Kyndall, Nathanael, Paige, Piper, and Brigham. Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 31, 2015, at Crossroads Assembly of God with the Rev. Michael Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Elk Mountain Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:45 PM Sunday at the church. Anders-Rice Funeral Home is assisting the family. Pallbearers will be: Mark Atkinson, Tommy Greene, Bill Delong, Harold Ferrell, Gary Dodd, and Rick Morehead. The family would like to say a special Thank You to the Crossroads Assembly of God Church family, including all our pastors and staff.
