Roger Edwards

Asheville - Roger Solen Edwards, 62, passed away Thursday, June 16, 2016 at the St. Joseph Campus of Mission Hospitals. A native of Yancey County, Mr. Edwards had resided in Buncombe County for the past 45 years. He retired from Square D, and had been employed with Hubble-Premise Wiring of Marion. He was of the Baptist faith, and enjoyed fishing in his spare time. Mr. Edwards was the son of Thelma Williams Edwards and the late Solen Edwards. In addition to his mother, surviving are his wife of 44 years, Joy Williams Edwards; daughter, Heather Edwards and fiance Russell Jones; brothers: Tommy Edwards and wife Teresa and Sammy Edwards and wife Denise; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mark Chase and Mr. Tony Connor officiating. Burial will follow in the Edwards Family Cemetery in Yancey County. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home. The family would like to offer a heartfelt "Thank You" to the staff of the Coli Critical Care Unit and the 10th floor Oncology unit of the St. Joseph Campus Hospital, for the care and compassion shown to Mr. Edwards during his stay.
