Arden - Robert Vester Bob Harwood, 55, of 21 Southwicke Drive, died Saturday October 20, 2001 at Mountain Area Hospice Solace Center. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County. He had retired June 2001 as Chief of Police of Biltmore Estate with whom he has been employed for 25 years. He was a native American of the Cherokee Tribe the son of the late Marcus Vester and Margaret Elizabeth Lunsford Harwood. Surviving are his wife, Virginia Carlotta West Harwood of the home; daughters, Sue Cheek, Pamela Rathburn and husband, Steve and Robin Wolfe all of Candler; son, Scott Harwood and wife, Dixie of Phenix City, Alabama; sisters, Wanda Hollars and husband, Frank of Burlington, NC and Nancy Harris and husband, Donald of Swannanoa; step sister, Louise Moore and husband, Reece of Kings Mountain; brother, Larry Harwood and wife, Amanda of Asheville; step brother, Monroe Payne of Asheville; 8 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the Chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Revs. Willie Warren and Thom Murphy officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Enka with honors conducted by the Biltmore Estate Company Police, Buncombe County Sheriffs Department and the N.C. Wildlife Law Enforcement Officers. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and at other times will be at the residence. Memorials may be made to: Mountain Area Hospice, P.O.
