Robert Riddle

ASHEVILLE - Robert A. Riddle, 77, of 2 Mountain Terrace passed away Thursday, February 4, 2010 at Emerald Ridge Rehabilitation Center. A native of Madison County, he had resided in Buncombe County for 57 years. He was a City Police Officer, a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church, attended Beulah Baptist Church, was a member of the VFW Post #891 and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Riddle was a son of the late Ellard William Riddle and Roxy Melinda Walker Riddle. Surviving are his wife, Betty Cox Riddle of the home; daughter, Alice Riddle Merrill of Raleigh; grandchildren, Lara Statile of Raleigh and Ryan Merrill of Wilmington; great grandchildren, Evan, Cooper and Finnegan Statile; brothers, Troy Riddle of Swannanoa, Howard Riddle of Winston-Salem, Elmer Riddle of Leicester and Earl Riddle of Greenville, SC. Funeral services will be held 3 P.M. Sunday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Ricky Wolfe and Rev. Claude Surrett officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 P.M. prior to funeral services Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be 11 A.M. Monday in Forest Lawn Memorial Park with military rites conducted by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team Honor Guard.
