Asheville - Robert Neal Bob Quakenbush, 71, of 210 Adams Hill Road died Monday October 8, 2001 at his home after an extended illness. He was born June 30, 1930 in Asheville and was a son of the late Elwood and Frances Sherlin Quakenbush and was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Terry. He attended Emma School and Blantons Business College and served two terms in the U.S. Air Force. Afterward, he was Produce Manager at Winn Dixie, was employed by Sears in the Appliance Department and then became a retail car dealer in 1961. He was a member of the Auto Dealers Association and was a wholesale car dealer for approximately 25 years. He was a member of Emma United Methodist Church for approximately 60 years, where he served as Sunday School Superintendent and Chairman of the Board. He also served on the Board of Trustees and Pastoral Relations Committee. He assisted in purchasing the land where Emma United Methodist Church stands today. His greatest loves were his church, family and home and he enjoyed playing his guitar as well as singing and writing songs for his own enjoyment. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Ann Young Quakenbush; one daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Steve Brown of Hendersonville; one son, David Quakenbush and his girlfriend, Toni Bowen, both of Asheville; two granddaughters, Kristen and Brittany Brown of Hendersonville. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, John William Bill and Louise Quakenbush of Asheville, as well as nieces and nephews, a host of friends and many loved ones. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Wes Sharpe and Dr. Steve Quakenbush officiating. Burial will be in Green Hills Cemetery.
