Robert Glenn King

December 1, 1944 — April 6, 2002

Candler - Robert Glenn King, 57, of 2 Jugtown Road, a devoted and loving Husband, Father and PaPaw went to be with the Lord Saturday, April 6, 2002 at the Asheville V.A. Medical Center following an extended illness. A native of Buncombe County. Mr. King had resided in Darlington, S.C. prior to returning to Buncombe County in 1990. He was a truck driver and attended Happy Valley Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Vietnam receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Vietnam Campaign, Army Commendation, Good Conduct and Bronze Star Medals. He was the son of Ralph C. King of Candler and the late Bernice King. Mr. King was also preceded in death by a brother, Ricky King. Surviving in addition to his father are his wife, Teresa Edwards King of the home; daughter, Janet Edwards of Nashville; son, Robert W. King of Moncks Corner, S.C.; grandchildren, Brittany, Breann and Derik; sister, Hazel Rathbone of Asheville; brothers, Frank King of Dillsboro and Jerry King of Iraan, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Western N.C. State Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain with the Rev. Russell Gillespie officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Volunteer Memorial Team. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 PM Tuesday at Anders-Rice funeral home.
