Robert "Gene" Angel

Asheville Robert Eugene Gene Angel, 74, of 270 Hi-Alta Avenue, went to be with his Lord Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at his residence. A native of Madison County, he had resided in Buncombe County since 1955. Mr. Angel retired from Loomis-Fargo as a truck driver. He was the oldest and longest active member of Friendship Baptist Church, where he also served as a Deacon, and was a U.S. Army veteran during Peacetime. Mr. Angel was a son of the late Arnold Vance and Selma Kate Cook Angel. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Carroll Angel. Surviving are his daughter, Pamela Fountain & husband Steve of Swannanoa; son, Jeff Angel of Asheville; grandsons, Chad Fountain and Scott Fountain; great grandchildren, Alexius Fountain, Sadie Fountain and Ryan Fountain. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Tuesday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home and Cremation Center, with Rev. Mike Cathey and Rev. Daryl Overton officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, with military graveside rites provided by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team. The family will receive friends from 7-9 PM Monday at the funeral home.
