Robert Alex "Bob" Shaft

Weaverville Robert Alex Bob Shaft, 81, of 297 Garrison Branch Road, died January 4, 2006 at the Asheville VA Medical Center. A native of Buncombe County, he lived in Atlanta, GA for many years before returning to Buncombe County in 1981. He was a member of Mt. Bethel Freewill Baptist Church. He was a WW II veteran of the U.S. Army and U.S. Coast Guard. He was a son of the late Richard A. and Allie Cowan Shaft and was also preceded in death by brothers, Donald and Richard Shaft and sister, Josephine Shaft Keefer. Surviving are his wife, Ann Thomas Shaft of the home; daughters, Rebecca Knight and husband Isaac of Heflin, AL and Bobbie Jean Camp of Asheville; sister, Gail Hellam of Newark, DE; grandchildren, Tina Shepherd, Ken Knight, Rhonda Ford and Mechelle Parson; and 8 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Roy McPeters and Rev. Jay Blankenship officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Saturday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
