Candler – Robbie Lois Metcalf Banks, 82, passed away Thursday, December 2, 2021 at her home. A native of Yancey County, Mrs. Banks had resided in Buncombe County since 1996. She retired from the Chrysler Corp. as an inspector; however, her passion came after retirement, when she opened and operated Nina’s Forget Me Not antique shop out of her home in Candler. Mrs. Banks was the daughter of the late Lark Jahue and Nina Lanette Abernathy Metcalf. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Johnson; sisters: Edith Metcalf and Bonnie Reese; and brothers: Tommy, Paul, Charles, Edward, and Larry Metcalf. Surviving are her children: David Banks of Spartanburg, SC and Peggy Duerksen and husband Allen of Rockford, IL; sisters: Ruby Arrington and Carolyn Mease; brothers: Rev. Benny Metcalf and Robert Metcalf; six grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, two great, great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, with Pastor Ty Allen officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Due to COVID concerns, the family respectfully asks that funeral attendees please wear a mask or facial covering to Mrs. Banks’ service. Anders-Rice Funeral Home is assisting Mrs. Banks’ family with her final arrangements.
