Richard Paul Grooms, 70, passed away suddenly on Sunday, July 16, 2023, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center while surrounded by family.
A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Manson George Grooms and Mildred Louisa Webb Grooms. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Doyle Grooms.
Richard worked for Eaton Manufacturing and Advance Auto Parts for many years. He loved being outdoors, especially hunting and camping on the mountain.
Surviving are his daughters: Rebecca Grooms Allen and special son-in-law, Danny Allen of Marion, and Jennifer Grooms of Asheville; granddaughter, Miranda Cope (Austin) of Marion; grandsons: Tyler Grooms, Dillon Patton, of Asheville and Hunter Allen of Marion; great-grandson, Carson Cope of Marion; siblings: George Grooms JR.(Jeannette) of Asheville, Judy Lunsford of Asheville, Don Grooms (Gail) of Weaverville, Melinda Dover (J.L.) of Asheville, and David Grooms of Leicester; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 12 pm on Saturday, July 22, 2023, in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Dean Rice officiating. Burial will follow at Little Sandy United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10:30 am till 12:00 pm at the funeral home.
