Richard M. "Dickie" Hyatt

Asheville - Richard Morgan Dickie Hyatt, 76, of 81 Beverly Road, passed away Friday August 27, 2010 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County he had retired from Norfolk-Southern Railway as a Freight Car Inspector. He was of the Baptist faith and served in the US Army, being stationed in Germany. He was a charter member of both the VFW, Allen Street Post and the Buncombe County Rescue Squad. He was a member of Nichols-West Asheville Masonic Lodge # 650 and Order of the Eastern Star Biltmore Chapter #38. Mr. Hyatt was a son of the late Henley Jackson Hyatt and Gertrude Fields Hyatt and was also preceded in death by his brother, Raymond Hyatt. Surviving are his wife, Anne Monteath Hyatt, of the home; sons, Michael Hyatt of Candler and Bobby Hyatt and fiancee Sheila Freeman, both of Marshall; granddaughter, Mickey Hyatt and fiance, Christopher Smith both of Chattanooga, TN; aunt, Arnie Fields of Weaverville; and several nieces. Graveside services will be held 3 PM Monday at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory with the Rev. Steve Greene officiating. Masonic graveside services will be conducted by the Nichols-West Asheville Masonic Lodge #650. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 PM Sunday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Childrens Hospital, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
