Candler Rev. William Howard Raines, 93, of 381 Milk Sick Cove Road, went to be with his Lord on Monday, June 1, 2015 at The Oaks of Brevard. A native of Knoxville, TN, he had resided in Asheville most of his life. He was an Ordained Baptist Minister and was a US Army veteran having served during WWII. Rev. Raines was a son of the late William Henry Raines and Pearl Flanigan Raines and was the husband of Rachel Keith Raines who died September 30, 2013. He was also preceded in death by two grandchildren. Surviving are his children, Tim Raines of Candler, Rebecca Johnston of Brevard and Keith Raines of Greeneville, TN; 8 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; sister, Juanita Rhew; brother, Charlie Raines and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Thursday, June 4, 2015 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with his nephews, Rev. Johnny Lynn Raines and Mr. Robert Raines officiating. Burial will follow in West Memorial Park with military rites to be conducted by the NC National Guard. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
