West Asheville Rev. James D. Allen, 79, went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 16, 2012 at Emerald Ridge. A native of Nashville, TN, Rev. Allen had resided in Asheville since October of 1969. He was an Ordained Minister for 56 years, having served as a Pastor and Missionary to foreign countries, including Haiti, Africa, Jamaica and Mexico. He was an excellent Guitar Picker, Private Pilot and loved to travel. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a son of the late F.M. and Mary Page Allen and was also preceded in death by his brothers, Paul D. Allen and Jesse Jack Allen; sisters, Naomi Rippy and Catherine Anderson. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Ina Smith Allen of the home; daughter, Veronda Allen Murphy of Asheville; sons, Terry M. Allen and wife Kaylynne of Asheville and Tony Allen and wife Yasmine of Auburndale, FL; 12 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; sisters, Wanda McQueenie and Viola Shedd; brothers, Norman, Cordell and Wayne Allen and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Wednesday, November 21, 2012 in the chapel of the Anders-Rice Funeral Home with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Rev. Allen was a man of God, committed to serving the Lord and preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ.
