Candler – Rev. Dr. John Theron “Johnny” Tiller, 95, was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 21, 2022, at his residence. A native of Hart County, GA, he had resided in Buncombe County for most of his life. He began preaching on September 10, 1939, eight days after his 13th birthday, and has preached continuously since then. He served four churches as full time Pastor, from 1944 through 1993, and then served 13 churches as Interim Pastor. He taught at Fruitland Baptist Bible College for 22 years of which about 1500 students went through his classes. He enjoyed holding revivals and bible conferences over the years and was truly a great and faithful servant of God. Rev. Tiller was the son of the late John Spurgeon Tiller and Sallie Russie Scott Tiller and husband for over 71 years to Margaret McCracken Tiller who died May 29, 2017. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Frances Haynie who died in June 2006 and brother, Hurdas Tiller who died in February 2006. Surviving are his children, Rev. Dr. David Tiller and wife Debi of Smyrna, TN, Mark Tiller and wife Ann of Candler and Nancy Tiller (Tommy Rice) of Candler; 7 grandchildren, Matt Tiller and wife Lisa of Monroe, Carrie Tiller of Ellenboro, Katie Tiller (Howie Harton) of Jacksonville, Nicole Mitchell of Murfreesboro, TN, Michael Brideau and wife Megan of Phoenix, AZ, Paul Gallaher of New York, NY and Krystal Gallaher of Waynesville; 12 great grandchildren, JD, Celeste, Jacob, Mena, Madison, Candice, Kenzie, Ricky, Kassie, Gabriel, Klay and Isabelle; niece, Betty Joel Long and husband Bobby of Odenton, MD and nephew, Al North and wife Freida of Virginia Beach, VA. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Friday, August 26, 2022, at West Asheville Baptist Church, where he and his wife were married on November 19, 1950. Officiating will be Rev. Dr. David Tiller and Rev. Matt Tiller. Burial will follow in West Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45 PM prior to services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Fruitland Baptist Bible College, 1455 Gilliam Rd, Hendersonville, NC 28792.
