Rev. Dean Huggins

March 8, 1952 — May 24, 2015

Rev. Phillip Dean Huggins, 63, of 18 Ford Valley Road, went to be with his Lord Sunday, May 24, 2015 at the University of Cincinnati Hospital. A native of Haywood County he had resided in Buncombe County most of his life. He was an ordained pastor, having served at Elk Mountain Baptist Church and Bull Creek Missionary Baptist Church. He also was a Chaplain with the Buncombe County Sherriffs Department and the Woodfin Police Department. He formerly was employed with Ensley Firestone in Canton for 17 years as a mechanic, and currently employed for over 10 years at Silverline Plastics. He was a 1971 graduate of Clyde A. Erwin High School, attended Nashville Auto Diesel College, and Fruitland Bible Institute. He was the son of Thelma Autes Duckett Huggins of Candler and the late Charles Hamilton Huggins. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Erin and brother, Paul Huggins. In addition to his mother, surviving are his wife of 33 years, Sherry Lynn Stamey Huggins of the home; son, Charles Huggins and wife Ashley of Chillicothe, OH; and granddaughters: Erin, Skyler, and Colby Huggins. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, May 27, 2015 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Wesley Pike and Rev. Dennis Thurman officiating.
