Mills River – Rev. Bobbie Martin Arrowood, Sr., 84, of Mt. Gilead Church Road, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at his residence.
A native of Buncombe County (Flat Creek), he moved to Henderson County in March 1975. He retired in 1996 as a Baptist Minister, having served 21½ years at Mt. Gilead and several interims after that. He was a 1956 graduate of North Buncombe High School, a 1975 graduate of Fruitland Bible Institute, was a member of Fletcher First Baptist Church and was a veteran of the US Navy (1956-1959).
Mr. Arrowood was a son of the late Filete Luther Arrowood and Elizabeth Anders Arrowood and was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Carley Rose Arrowood.
Surviving are his wife whom he married August 12, 1960, Shirley Fore Arrowood of the home; children, Bobbie Martin “Marty” Arrowood, Jr. (Denise) of Mills River, Brian Keith Arrowood (Tammy) of Etowah and Shana Arrowood Garren (Doug) of Mills River; 7 grandchildren, Casey A. Nash (David), Jared Arrowood (Kristen), Derrick Garren (Bonnie), Tyler Arrowood (Kimbrell), Tamra Wilson (Chris), Bethany Hoose (Jason) and Caleb M. Garren (Alex); 13 great-grandchildren, Hayden, Caadan, Colton, Laurel, Sophia, Hazel, Gabriel, Anistyn, Westlyn, Beau, Judah, Marek and Jordan; sisters, Linda A. Warren of West Asheville and Marie A. Barker (Freddie) of Weaverville; brothers, Bruce Arrowood of Arden and Ronald Arrowood (Sarah) of Weaverville and Several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, January 7, 2023 at Fletcher First Baptist Church, with Rev. Roy Waldroup, Rev. Gunne Davis, and Rev. David Gentry officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery, with Pastor Phillip Luther officiating and military honors to be conducted by the US Navy.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Friday at the church.
