Fletcher - Rebecca Mary Vance Martin ,78, of 17 Oakbrook Road died Tuesday, October 30, 2001 at Memorial Mission Hospital. A native of Haywood County. She had resided in Buncombe County from 1946 to 1953, Royal Oak, Michigan from 1953 to returning to Buncombe County in 1965. Mrs. Martin retired in 1985 after 20 years of service from the Asheville V.A. Medical Center where she had served as a Registered Nurse. She graduated in 1945 having received her nursing training from Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, TN and Kennedy General in Memphis, TN and was a member of Biltmore Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late Joseph Branson and Mary Delena Cook Vance and the wife of Jack Morgan Martin who died in 1963. She was also preceded in death by a brother, John Vance. Surviving are her daughter Rebecka Ann Martin with whom she made her home; grandson, Van Johnson of Pembroke, New Hampshire; sister, Mattie Sharp of Leicester; brother, Henry Vance of Canton and Zeb Vance of Greensboro; brother-in-law, Charles Martin and wife, Judy of Tyler, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Ian Walker officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Oakley. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home
