Raye Jarrett

February 25, 1943 — February 10, 2013

Alexander - Raye Lee Jarrett, 69, of Alexander, peacefully departed after a courageous battle with cancer on February 10th at his home. Preceded in death by his parents Raymond E. and Adelle Karns Jarrett, of Bushnell,Florida and also his sister Dawn Carson. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Deborah Leigh Collins Jarrett, his children Jason Lee Jarrett (Lori Carlisle), Aaron Lee Jarrett (Julie Birchfield), M'Lisa Leigh Jarrett (Bernard R. Pieroway), his brother Michael Howard Jarrett (Lisa) of Bushnell, Florida; grandchildren Kayla, Brittany, Melanie, Christopher, Nigel; great-grandchildren, Skylar and Haylee; and many nieces and nephews. He was retired from BellSouth with 36 years, retired from the United States Army National Guard with a rank of Staff Sergeant, and retired as Chief from French Broad Volunteer Fire & Rescue with 22 years of service. Throughout his years of service he was recognized many times for his achievements. He took the time to master many hobbies including playing the bagpipes, ships in a bottle, fishing and many, many, many more. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, February 23, 2013, at Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with Father Bill McLoughlin officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 2:45 PM Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial graveside rites will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. Those wishing to participate in the procession may gather with the family at Anders-Rice Funeral Home by 1:00 PM Wednesday. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to French Broad Firemans Fund, 572 Fletcher Martin Rd, Alexander NC 28701 or Care Partners Hospice Services, 68 Sweeten Creek Rd., Asheville NC 28803.
