Quay Edward Blackwell

April 14, 1934 — January 11, 2003

Hendersonville - Quay Edward Blackwell, 68, of 3103 Blue Goose Court, died Saturday January 11, 2003 at St. Josephs Hospital following a period of declining health. A native of Henderson County. He had resided in Buncombe and Henderson County most of his life. He retired in 1999 from the Buncombe County Inspections Department as a Mechanical Inspector. He was formerly employed as a Heating and Air mechanic for several local heating companies, a member of East Rock United Methodist Church for 51 years and was a Korean War veteran serving 12 years in the U.S. Navy. He was a son of the late William Shadrack Blackwell and Bessie Melinda Pace Blackwell McCraw. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Calvin William Tom Blackwell and a sister, Genevieve Blackwell Lunsford. Surviving are his wife of 32 years, Louise West Blackwell of the home; brother, J.B. Blackwell of Hendersonville; sister-in-law, Virginia Carlotta Harwood; aunt, Eulah Hawkins; nephews, Tony Blackwell and Scott Harwood; nieces, Sandy Graves, Cheryl Buie, Carla Lambert and Robin Wolfe; several great nieces and nephews; great great nephews and several cousins including his special cousin, Alvin Rusty Jonesand a host of special friends. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the East Flat Rock United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Tim Porter officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Hendersonville. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
