Preston Murray Jr.

Asheville - Preston Murray, Jr., 81, of 379 Old Leicester Hwy. died Friday, October 12, 2001 at Mountain Area Hospice. A native of Stokes County, he was a veteran of the US Navy, serving during WW II. He retired from Southern Railroad in 1982. Mr. Murray was the son of the late Preston Murray Sr. and Rosa Neal Murray. Surviving are his wife, Brenda Rice Murray of the home; sons, Jeffrey Murray of Asheville and Alexander Murray of Walnut Cove, NC; step daughters, Melanie Rice and Whitney Ponder, both of Asheville; sisters, Jean Martin and Jane Sawyer, both of Walkertown, NC; brothers, Ralph Murray of Durham and Don Murray of Kernersville, NC. A graveside service will be held at 1 PM Tuesday in the Gardens of Memory, Walkertown with the Rev. James T. Webb officiating.
