Asheville Phillip Twiggy Cole, 64, of 25 Cedar Hill Circle passed away Saturday, July 24, 2010 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a loving & devoted husband, father and papaw. He was employed with Buncombe County School Maintenance Department, was a member of Sunrise Baptist Church where he was a deacon and served on numerous committees. He played the piano with the Light House Quartet, was a 1964 graduate of North Buncombe High School and was a US Army veteran during the Vietnam War. Mr. Cole was a son of the late Pozie O. and Ada S. Fowler Cole and was also preceded in death by his brother, Willie James Cole; Father-in-law, Ernest M. Thomas and sisters, Shirley Christopher and Athelene Hawkins. Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Breida Ann Thomas Cole whom he married January 20, 1968, of the home; daughter, Tammy Renae Cole of Barnardsville; granddaughter, Chelsie Courtney Baldwin of Barnardsville; sister, Beatrice Cook & husband Leslie of Weaverville; sister-in-law, Nina Cole of Weaverville; brothers, P.A. Cole & wife Christine of Charleston, SC and Bensil Cole & wife Mary of Weaverville; brother-in-law, James L. Christopher of Weaverville and mother-in-law, Lucille R. Thomas of Mars Hill. Funeral services will be held 2:30 P.M. Monday at Sunrise Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. John T. Tiller and Rev. Larry Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Mars Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Mars Hill VFW Post #5483. The family will receive friends 2:30 to 4:30 P.M. Sunday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
