Pete Luis Pelaez

Pete Pelaez passed away Aug 8, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents Oswald Pelaez Sr. and Polly Riddle Pelaez, brother Oswald Pelaez Jr., and sister Judie Davis.

A lifelong West Asheville native, he attended Calvary Baptist Church and graduated from Asheville High School. Pete grew up working in his family's grocery stores and as an adult worked with his family's local businesses in various capacities. At age thirty-two he began his career as a territory representative for Pinkerton, then Swedish Match, a position he held for twenty-four years.

Pete was a steadfast, dependable man who was loyal to his family. He loved the Lord with all his heart. While we are brokenhearted, we are comforted knowing he is eternally rejoicing in heaven. He was the best husband, father, father-in-law, and grandfather one could imagine. He was also a dog's best friend-never met one that didn't like him and home was never home without a dog. He was happiest being with his wife and family, his granddaughter being the highlight of his life.

He is survived by his loving wife of nearly forty-eight years, Jan; daughter Angela and son-in-law Patrick O'Kelley; granddaughter Corbin O'Kelley; sister-in-law Anita Pelaez and nephews "The Three Amigos"; brother Joe Horecny (Terri); sister Patricia Burke (Curtis); as well as many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and personal friends whom he loved very much.

His quick wit, patience, love and thoughtfulness will be sorely missed.
