Pete Bishop

December 27, 1934 — September 17, 2017

Candler Harold William Pete Bishop, 82, of 38 Ashe Road, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at the Charles George VA Medical Center. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he retired in 2004 following 32 years of service with the Asheville Citizen-Times. He was a veteran of the US Army and a charter member of the Good News Baptist Church, where he was a former Mens Sunday School Class teacher and strong prayer warrior. Our dad was a gentle, humble and dedicated man who loved his Lord and his family. Mr. Bishop was a son of the late Cecil Edward Bishop and Nonnieve Merrill Bishop and husband of Bleka Mae Honeycutt Bishop who died September 22, 2004. Surviving are his daughter, Charlotte Jones and husband Mike of Piedmont, SC, sons, Rev. Ricky Bishop and wife Brenda of Coinjock and Bill Bishop and wife Lori of Asheville; 13 grandchildren, Elisabeth, Josh, Jennifer, Megan, Seth, Benji, Brittany, Kyle, Matthew, Caleb, Abby, Isaac and Grace; 9 great grandchildren; brother, Gene Bishop and wife Nellie of Fletcher and several nieces, nephews, brothers and sister-in-law. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at Good News Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Smith and Rev. Jacob Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:15 PM Wednesday at the church. A special thanks to Jean Harwood, who is a dear friend of our family, for her love and care to our dad for the past few years and to the entire staff at the VA Medical Center for their love and care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Good News Baptist Church Mission Fund, P.O.
