Asheville - Perry Wesley Clark, 73, of 8 Louisville Place died Tuesday, March 30, 2004 at Mission Hospitals following a short illness. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a member of Westwood Baptist Church, a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II, and was employed for 30 years as a fork lift operator with Asheville Wastepaper Co. Mr. Clark was the son of the late John Rufus and Mamie Stella Buckner Clark and was the husband of the late Louise Penley Clark who died March 28, 1991. He was also preceded in death by 4 sisters and 2 brothers. Surviving are his daughters, Mary Lou Carter, Betty Jo Hyatt and Hazel Wright all of Asheville; sons, David Lee Johnston of Kingston, Jerry Wayne Johnston and Larry Dean Johnston both of Asheville, and Gary Eugene Johnston of Gaffney, SC; brother, Paul Clark of Pasadena, TX; 16 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Friday in the Anders-Rice Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Wesley Pike and Larry Sprinkle officiating. Burial will be in Green Hills Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jason Johnston, Wesley Johnston, Jerry Johnston, Jr., Timothy Johnston, Gary Johnston, Jr., Randy Hyatt, Phil Bishop, and Brian Carter. The family will receive friends from 2-3 PM Friday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of Betty Jo Hyatt, 23 Carrier St., Asheville.
