Woodfin – Peggy Jean Fortner Burris, 80, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at her residence. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she retired in 2001 from Wilsonart following 17 years of service, and previously was employed with American Enka for 14 years. Mrs. Burris was a daughter of the late Paul Eugene Fortner and Maude Ann Higgins Fortner. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Patsy and daughter, Betty Yates. Surviving are her sons, Vincent Burris (Chrysta) of Candler, Anthony Burris (Kim) of Horse Shoe and Timothy Burris of Asheville; daughter-in-law, Jade Burris of Marietta, GA; son-in-law, James Stone of Asheville; sister, Edna Marie Melvin of Perry, GA; grandchildren, Wayne, Allen, Shannon (Aaron), Brandon, Jordan (Erika), Adrian, Emily (Hunter), Hayley & Hannah; great-grandson, Aiden James and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorial services will be held at 5 PM Saturday, July 17, 2021 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with Rev. Jack Gassaway officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following services at the funeral home.
