Peggy B. Johnston

Asheville Peggy Bates Johnston, 84, of 62 Hudson Street, passed away on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at Stonecreek Health & Rehabilitation. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she retired from American Enka Corporation following 29 years of service. Mrs. Johnston was the daughter of the late Avon Bates and Mella Cody Meeks and was the wife of Edward Jay Johnston who died August 26, 1977. She was also preceded in death by her three sisters and two brothers. Surviving are her sons, Harvey Louis Johnston (Carol) of Asheville, Charles Edward Johnston (Lucille) of Candler; Melvin Thomas Tommy Johnston (Debbie) and Bobby Lee Johnston (Judy) all of Asheville; brother, Carroll Bates of Asheville; eight grandchildren, several great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Monday, December 28, 2015 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Pastor Patrick Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Pisgah View Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1 to 1:45 PM Monday at the funeral home.
