PAUL EDWARD "SHORTY" CLUBB, 73, OF 165 FARM ROAD, DIED SUNDAY, DECEMBER 31, 2000 AT THE HOME OF HIS DAUGHTER FOLLOWING A BRIEF ILLNESS. A NATIVE AND LIFELONG RESIDENT OF BUNCOMBE COUNTY. HE RETIRED IN 1989 FROM THOMAS & HOWARD COMPANY WHERE HE SERVED AS A TRUCK DRIVER FOR OVER 15 YEARS. HE WAS A MEMBER OF VICTORY BAPTIST CHURCH WHERE HE TAUGHT THE MENS BIBLE CLASS, A MEMBER OF THE SUNSHINE CLUB, SERVED AS A BUS DRIVER FOR THE CHURCH AND SUNG IN THE CHOIR. HE WAS A FORMER MEMBER OF NEW HOPE BAPTIST CHURCH WHERE HE WAS A DEACON AND FORMER SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER FOR OVER 30 YEARS AND WAS A WORLD WAR II VETERAN OF THE U.S. ARMY. MR. CLUBB WAS A SON OF THE LATE MARION FRANK CLUBB AND DORA LEDBETTER CLUBB AND HUSBAND OF MARY PAULINE POUNDERS CLUBB WHO DIED MAY 8, 1985. SURVIVING ARE HIS DAUGHTER, ARETHA JEAN GLEGHORN AND HUSBAND, GLENN OF ASHEVILLE; SONS, DOYLE EDWARD CLUBB OF ASHEVILLE AND DONALD LEE CLUBB AND WIFE, TERESA OF WEAVERVILLE; GRANDCHILDREN, JASON GLEGHORN, BRANDON CLUBB AND JAMIE CLUBB; SISTERS, DOVIE FRISBEE OF ALEXANDER, RACHEL ROGERS OF ASHEVILLE AND JULIE JONES OF LEICESTER; BROTHERS, ALBERT CLUBB OF ASHEVILLE AND CURTIS CLUBB OF LEICESTER; SPECIAL FRIENDS AND BROTHERS-IN-LAW, CHARLES AND COY POUNDERS; SEVERAL NIECES AND NEPHEWS. FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE 3:30 P.M. WEDNESDAY AT VICTORY BAPTIST CHURCH WITH THE REVS LARRY SPRINKLE, BOBBY GIBSON AND CARROLL INGLE OFFICIATING. BURIAL WILL BE IN NEW LIBERTY BAPTIST CHURCH CEMETERY. THE FAMILY WILL RECEIVE FRIENDS 7 TO 9 P.M. TUESDAY AT THE ANDERS-RICE FUNERAL HOME AND AT OTHER TIMES WILL BE AT THE RESIDENCE.
