Paul Alvan Lowe

August 21, 1926 — July 14, 2004

Paul Alvan Lowe, 77, of 100 Cheerio Lane, Apt. B-33, died Wednesday, July 14, 2004 in the Asheville VA Medical Center after an extended illness. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a retired employee of the City of Asheville as a night watchman. He was a member of Oakley Freewill Baptist Church. Mr. Lowe was a gifted musician and guitar player, and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was the son of the late Henry Jacob Red and Effie J. McElrath Lowe. He was also preceded in death by a brother, James Dale Lowe. Surviving are his wife, Marie Ray Lowe, of the home; stepchildren: Arlie Thomas Ray and wife Kathy of Fort Mill, SC, Edward Allison Ray and wife Sharon of Black Mountain, Michael Ray and wife Jacqueline of Asheville, David Groce Ray and wife Cindy of Asheville, and Roxanne Ray of Asheville; 11 step-grandchildren; four sisters: Thelma Lee Lowe Suggs and husband Bill of Asheville, Marjorie Lowe Smith and husband James of Asheville, Edna Lowe Tipton and husband George of Arden, and Mary Lowe Penland and husband Mack of Asheville; five nieces and four nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Sunday, July 18, 2004, in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home. The Revs. Leonard Cutshaw and Bobby Robinson will officiate. Burial will be in the Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
