Asheville Patsy Ruth Allen Matthews, 79, of 324 Pole Barn Drive went to be with her Lord Thursday, December 29, 2011 at her home. A native of Buncombe County, she was born on May 27, 1932 at their familys home on Howard Street in West Asheville. She was the daughter of the late Dick and Helen Allen and wife of Jimmie Lee Matthews who passed away in 1995 following 38 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Raymond D. Allen. Mrs. Matthews graduated from Lee H. Edwards High School in 1951. She attended Mission Hospital Nursing School, graduating in 1952 and worked as an LPN at St Josephs Hospital for many years. She was a member of West Asheville Baptist Church where she was a member of the John Hunley Sunday School Class. She was a former member of Westwood Baptist Church where she taught 1st and 2nd grade Sunday School and sang in the church choir. She greatly loved her church. Her hobbies included cooking, but her greatest loves were her Lord, her family and most especially, her granddaughter, Amy. Surviving are her daughter, Myra Yvonne Matthews of the home; son, Michael Barry Matthews and wife Kimberly Larkin Matthews of Candler and granddaughter, Amy Faye Matthews of Candler. Funeral services will be held 3 P.M. Sunday at West Asheville Baptist Church with Rev. Stan Welch and Rev. Dr. Carson E. Moseley officiating. Burial will follow in Pisgah View Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:45 P.M. Sunday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: West Asheville Baptist Church - Building Fund, 926 Haywood Road, Asheville, N.C. 28806. The family would like to say a special thanks to Jolanda Phillips for her love and care given to our Mom over the many years.
