Pastor Martha Jean Brinkley Raines

Pastor Martha Jean Brinkley Raines, 65, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late David and Dorothy Brinkley. She was also preceded in death by her son, Charles Richard Raines. Pastor Raines was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy and attended Asheville Family Church. She graduated from Erwin High School in 1970. Surviving are her husband, Charles Michael Raines of the home; son, David Michael Raines of Asheville; grandchildren: Melissa Dawn Raines, April Christina Raines, Mitchell Raines, and Adam Raines; great-grandchildren: Angel, Bobby, Tristian, Ava, Hunter, Preston, Briley, Evelyn, Zaine and Brentley; sisters: Mary Overton (Daryl) of Arden; Meritta Mashburn of Asheville, and Melinda McCoy (Dale) of Asheville; brothers: Alfred Brinkley of Leicester, Frankie Brinkley of Asheville, Richard Brinkley of Candler, and Jimmy Brinkley (Susie) of Asheville; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 PM Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at Asheville Family Church, with Pastor Rolf Woodard officiating. Burial will follow at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:30 AM till 12:15 PM prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.
