Asheville – Ovidio G. Montella, 97, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 26, 2024, at the Pisgah Manor Health Care Center.
A native of Patterson, NJ, he was a WWII US Army Veteran. Following his military service, Mr. Montella worked for Lockheed for 25 years, and then for Fairchild where he helped build the A10 Thunderbolt, and last he worked for Grumman Aerospace. Mr. Montella was a longtime member of the Amityville VFW post.
He was a son of the late Marzio Montella and Adeline Montella, and the husband of the late Ethel May Lohman Montella whom he married in 1954. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Beatrice Costa.
Surviving are his sons: Ovidio “Ovie” A. Montella and wife Susan, and Vincent “Vinnie” Marzio Montella and wife Donna; grandchildren: Jessica Lynn Masullo and husband Mike, Lauren Pierce and husband James, and Sarah Banks and husband Levi; and great-grandsons, Joseph and Carson.
Funeral services will be held be announced. Burial will follow in the Calverton National Cemetery.
