West Asheville - Oma Woody Brown, 97, died Thursday, August 15, 2002 at the Pisgah Manor Nursing Home following a brief illness. A native of Town County, Washington. She had resided in Buncombe County most of her life. She was formerly employed with Woody Brothers Bakery and was employed with Memorial Mission and Aston Park Hospitals as a nurses assistant. Mrs. Brown was a member of Emma United Methodist Church where her teachings are still the committments and foundation the church membership observes today. Over the years at the church she was a charter member of the Home Demonstration Club, served as a Stewart, S.S. Class Teacher and very devoted to the United Methodist Womens Society where she had served as president for 7 years. Mrs. Brown served her community, neighbors and friends with devotion and kindness. She served as President of the P.T.A. at Emma High School, was a M.Y.F. leader and was instrumental in organizing the first Boy Scouts of America Troup in the community. She was the daughter of the late Pink Mitchell Woody and Altha Lou Ellen Bright Woody and was the last surviving child of 3 daughters and 4 sons. She was the wife of Frank Mckinley Brown who died May 10, 1957. Surviving are her son, Donald Brown and wife, Kate of Canton; grandsons, Vincent Brown and wife, Brandy, Eric Brown and wife, Cindy and Rodney Brown; great grandsons, Mckinley and Trail Brown and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Wes Sharpe and Rev. Neil Haynes officiating. Burial will be in Pisgah View Memorial Park.
