Oliver Lee Randall

Fletcher - Oliver Lee Randall, 86, of 908 Woodhill Drive and formerly of New Leicester Hwy, passed away Thursday, August 18, 2005 at Park Ridge Hospital after a brief illness. A native of Madison County, he resided in Buncombe County most of his life before moving to Henderson County in 2004. He attended Oxford Orphanage in Oxford, NC. He retired in 1981 from Trailways as a bus driver after 42 years of service and also was a bus driver safety instructor. In 1960 he received the N.C. bus driver of the year award. During his career, he drove over 3 million miles without an accident. He was a member of Erwin Hills Baptist Church where he was a deacon and former Sunday School teacher. Mr. Randall was a Tech Sgt. in the U.S. Army during WWII, serving in the Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns. He was a receipient of the EAME Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal. He was a son of the late Lattie Arthur and Olvia Lee Worley Randall and was also preceded in death by 2 sisters and 3 brothers. Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Jewel Bowers Randall whom he married December 4, 1937; son, Danny Lee Randall, Sr. of Fletcher; granddaughter, Karen Leigh Michalove of Asheville; grandson, Danny Lee Randall, Jr. of Sarasota, FL; great grandchildren, Matthew, Joshua, Ashley and Kristy; former daughter-in-law, Sandra S. Randall of Asheville; sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Anderson of Greensboro, Sarah Jefferies of Gastonia and Mildred Earnhardt and husband Alvin of Greensboro; brother-in-law, Claude Wright, Sr. of Asheville; special friend, Pippa Dolen of Arden and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday in the Anders-Rice Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jonathan Stewart, Rev. Dr. John T. Tiller, Rev. Marty Connor and Rev. Jim Whitted officiating. Active pallbearers will be Harold Wright, Bill Jefferies, David Earnhardt, Mike Culbertson, Mike Ross, Al North, Ronnie Bowers and Randy Maney. Honorary pallbearers will be Lee Randall, Joey Jefferies, Dick Wright, Alvin Earnhardt and Brian Wright. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park with military graveside rites conducted by the Asheville High School Jr. R.O.T.C. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. His love was his family and sharing with others his stories of his military and bus driving experiences. He will always be remembered as a kind smiling man who had no enemies.
