Norman Louis Calhoun, 90, of Asheville, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on January 20, 2021. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy B. Calhoun, also of Asheville. A native of Buncombe County, Norman was a former brick and rock mason, a salesman and painter. In his later years, he became well known locally and at Florida’s Stephen Foster State Park as a creative artisan through his hand-carved ”Sticks and Staffs” creations. Norman was also a spirited study of the Biblical texts through the years and a self-published author of religious study. Norman was a veteran of the Korean conflict, during which he served with the 45th Infantry Division / 179th Infantry Division and survived many of that war’s most historically notable battles. Norman is survived by his son, Kevin Calhoun and wife Deborah, four grandchildren, Katherine and husband Doug Cutshall, Morgan and husband Lance Pace, Caleb and Greyson Calhoun all of the Leicester area. He is further survived by three great grandchildren. The family plans a memorial ceremony later in the year. Family members can be reached directly in the meantime or by email at kevinxcalhoun@gmail.com.
