A NATIVE OF HAYWOOD COUNTY, SHE HAD LIVED IN BUNCOMBE COUNTY FOR MOST OF HER LIFE. SHE WAS A NIECE OF LUCIUS COMPTON, FOUNDER OF ELIADA HOME, WAS A MEMBER OF MERRIMON AVENUE BAPTIST CHURCH, AND HAD BEEN A VOLUNTEER FOR ABCCM. SHE WAS THE DAUGHTER OF THE LATE THOMAS JEFFERSON COMPTON AND ANNIE MIRAH WHITENER COMPTON AND WAS THE WIFE OF THE LATE WILLIAM EARL McELRATH, SR. SURVIVING ARE HER SONS, EDWARD LEE McELRATH AND WILLIAM EARL McELRATH, JR. BOTH OF ASHEVILLE, AND HOWARD RAY McELRATH OF ANCHORAGE, AK; DAUGHTERS, ANN ELIZABETH CASEY OF AIKEN, SC, BARBARA JEAN WARREN OF ASHEVILLE, AND JUDITH GAYLE HOBSON OF IVORYTON, CT; SISTERS, SARA ELIZABETH SMITH AND EDITH PAULINE HOOPER BOTH OF ASHEVILLE; 16 GRANDCHILDREN, 21 GREAT GRANDCHILDREN, 3 GREAT GREAT GRANDCHILDREN. FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT 2 PM TUESDAY IN THE ANDERS-RICE FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL WITH THE REV. BILL BIGHAM OFFICIATING. BURIAL WILL BE IN GREEN HILL CEMETERY, WAYNESVILLE.
