Nell Young

Woodfin Mary Zenell Nell Simpkins Young, 94, of 3 Cottage Street, went to be with the Lord Sunday, January 14, 2018 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. A native of Krum, TX, she had resided in Buncombe County for most of her life. She was a homemaker and member of the Elkwood UMC Church. She was the daughter of the late Robert Simpkins and Mary Frances Baxter Simpkins and wife of James Robert Young who died July 22, 1971. She was also preceded in death by her son, Walter Russell Young. Surviving are her sons, James M. Young (Mary) of Hurdle Mills, NC and Mark Young (Kim) of Woodfin; daughter, Della Jean Young of Lawton, OK; grandchildren, John and Robert Young, Kristy Jordan, Jerry and James Hensley, Rondi Babineau, Kerri Ludwig, Kevin Young, Crystal Dalton and Kelly Littrell; 25 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; 35 nieces and nephews, including her favorite nieces, Mildred Marie French and Robbie Wanell Perry. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Wednesday, January 17, 2018 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. George Davis and Rev. Enoch Ball, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Elk Mountain Cemetery. The family will receive friends from1:30 to 2:15 Wednesday prior to services at the funeral home.
