Neil Cathey

Weaverville – Neil Ervin Cathey, 86, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 9, 2021 at the Charles George VA Medical Center. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late John Dow Cathey and Nellie Shope Cathey Baldwin. He was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Krysten Oaks, 2 sisters and 3 brothers. Mr. Cathey served in the U.S. Army and worked with A&P Grocery for 20 years and retired in 1990 from Ingles Grocery. He was a former member of Friendship Baptist Church for over 30 years where he served as Deacon and Church Treasurer. Surviving are his wife, Patricia (Pat) Cathey with whom he married January 23, 1955; son, Rick D. Cathey and wife Rhona of Weaverville; great grandson, Aiden Oaks of Beaver, PA, brother, Kenneth Cathey and wife Terry of Asheville and several nieces and nephews. Private graveside services were held Monday, April 12, 2021 at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory with Military Honors provided by the N.C. National Guard Honor Guard.
