Naomi Haynes Messer Waddell

January 7, 1936 — March 12, 2003

Skyland - Naomi Haynes Messer Waddell, 67, formerly of Edgewood Drive went to be with the Lord Wednesday March 12, 2003 at the Hospice Solace Center after an extended illness. A native of Haywood County, she had lived in Buncombe County for the past 40 years. She was a member of Lake Junaluska Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late Harley and Virginia Lowe Haynes and the wife of the late SSGT Melvin L. Messer. Surviving are her son, James Lewis Messer and wife Joan of Asheville; daughter, Janet Pinner Patterson and husband Phillip of Wilmington: brother, Joe Haynes and his late wife Jean of Waynesville: sisters, Evelyn Davis and her late husband Rev. Willie Davis of Winston-Salem, Yvonne Hannah and husband Carl of Hendersonville and Lillian Messer and husband Herman of Candler; grandchildren, Marlene Franklin of Asheville, Jennifer A. Phillips of Greenville and Amy E. Phillips of Wilmington; great grandchildren, Trevor, Tristan and Tanner Franklin and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Revs. Ricky Townsend and Butch Stillwell officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.
