Nancy Reed

West Asheville Nancy Joel Doan Reed, 72, of 96 Shelburne Road, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. Mrs. Reed was a lifelong resident of Buncombe County and a member of Woodfin Baptist Church. She was a Registered Nurse, having worked at Mission Hospital in the Labor and Delivery Department. Children were her life, as she had seven children of her own, and assisted in the delivery of over 700 other children. She was the daughter of the late Son and Iva Joel Rice Doan and the wife of Welzie Deweese W.D. Reed, Sr. who went to be with the Lord July 23, 2010. She was also preceded in death by her three brothers and three sisters. Surviving are her children, Lora Deitz and husband Keith of Candler, Welzie Deweese W.D. Reed, Jr. and wife Teresa of Asheville, Eddie Reed and wife Thao of Greenville, SC, Donna Blackwell, Mark Reed and wife Sabrina, Bryan Reed and Jeff Reed all of Asheville; daughter-in-law, Beverly Bilstein of Marion; son-in-law, Lesley Blackwell of Alexander; best friend, Linta McCall of Leicester; 12 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Friday, September 21, 2012 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Kelvin Moseley officiating. Entombment will be in Pisgah View Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Cory, Kyle, Adam and Timothy and nephews, Gary and Jack. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: National MS Society, PO Box 4527, New York, NY 10163. Our Mamaw will be best remembered for her strong and giving heart and unconditional love for all. Her strong will and determination has been the backbone for our family. It will continue to be the driving force that keeps us together and for that love we are all grateful.
