Nancy Haynes

July 27, 1941 — January 9, 2023

Asheville – Nancy Bell Haynes, 81, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Monday, January 9, 2023.


Residing in Buncombe County for most of her life, Mrs. Haynes was a 1959 graduate of Lee Edwards High School. Following graduation, she trained at Mission Hospital as a surgical technician. Later, she obtained her Real Estate Brokers license and partnered with John Carroll to form John Carroll and Associates Real Estate. Real estate was her niche, having served on several committees on the Asheville Board of Realtors, and was chosen as a delegate to represent the Board in Washington during a presentation to Representatives. In her spare time, Mrs. Haynes enjoyed playing tennis and bowling, setting one record that still stands. She was also a faithful member of Bible Baptist Church.


Mrs. Haynes was the daughter of the late Thomas F. Bell, Sr. and Lucy Gardner Bell. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Thomas F. Bell, Jr.


Surviving are her husband of 62 years, Donald Edward Haynes; daughters: Amanda Sluder and husband Tim, and Holly Fallias and husband Evangelos; grandchildren: Rev. Andrew Sluder and wife Lauren, Julia Sluder, Jennifer Hyatt and husband Nick, Cole Sluder, and Lucy Fallias; great-grandchildren: Levi Sluder, Zebadiah Sluder, Joshua Sluder, and Jackson Sluder; and step-great-grandson, David Hyatt.


Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday in the Chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with her grandson, Rev. Andrew Sluder, officiating.


The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 PM Friday at the funeral home.


In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bible Baptist Church, 32 Union Street, Asheville, NC 28804.
