Myrtle S. Sluder

February 3, 1936 — October 24, 2006

Leicester - Myrtle Shelton Sluder, 70, of 221 Sluder Branch Road, passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2006 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals System following a short illness. A native of Yancey County, she lived most of her life in Buncombe County. Mrs. Sluder retired from Chase Bag Co. as a quality control inspector, and was a member of Newfound Baptist Church. She had a great love for her family, friends and pets. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Wesley and Winnie Hensley Shelton. She was also preceded in death by her sisters: Ruby Shelton, Mary Lee Shelton, and Jessie Edwards; one niece and one nephew. Surviving are her husband of 53 years, William Merritt Sluder; three brothers: Earl Shelton of Asheville, Larry Shelton of Clyde and Vaugh Shelton of Fairview; sister, Patricia Dennie of Leicester; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Friday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Charles Phillips and Rev. Mark Ball officiating. Burial will follow in Newfound Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10-11 AM Friday at the funeral home.
