Myra J. Collins, 83, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2024, after a lifelong illness with Rheumatoid Arthritis. She was diagnosed at age 21 with the crippling disease.
She was born in Madison County, NC on June 18, 1941. After graduating from high school, she met and married my father, Wayne K. Naihe. At that time, Wayne was enlisted with the Army at Fort Rucker, AL. While there, they welcomed the birth of two daughters.
Later, Myra pursued a degree in Psychiatric Nursing at Schoolcraft College in Livonia, MI. She received her nursing license in 1970. She managed to practice nursing for 30 years by working and traveling to various parts of the country. She eventually retired on disability from Black Mountain State Hospital in 2000.
Myra was predeceased by her parents, Alfred T. and Louise K. Reyna; a daughter, Sheila L. Naihe; and a son, Craig R. Bond.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Sheryl L. Wilson and husband Dennis F. Wilson; cousins, Myra C. Potton and family, and Raelana Kitchen; and various extended family members and friends.
The family would sincerely like to thank all of her many caring doctors, nurses and caregivers throughout her life. We would also like to thank the doctors and nurses at Memorial Mission Hospital, Asheville Specialty Hospital, The Lodge at Mills River and Stonecreek Healthcare for helping us through the final months of her life.
Due to her wishes, there will be no planned service at this time. A Celebration of Life will be planned for a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Arthritis Foundation.
Anders Rice Funeral Home and Cremation Center is honored to serve Myra’s family.
