Murray Asch

July 3, 1912 — October 10, 2004

Asheville - Murray Asch, 92, died Wednesday November 10, 2004 at Emerald Ridge Rehabilitation & Care Center following a period of declining health. A native of New York City, he resided in Buncombe County since 1987. He was a son of the late Barnett and Sonia Soloman Asch and the husband of the late Mildred Edna Gottlieb Asch. All of his life, Murray Asch has dedicated his energies to aiding the less fortunate. He was the oldest volunteer in the Vista Program for many years, received the Governors Service Award from Gov. Jim Martin in 1990, was active in the Land of Sky programs and various organizations. He was dedicated to the Unitarian Universalist Church of Asheville and participated in the Jewish Community Center. He was a multi-learned man who loved opera with a passion and music in general. While at Emerald Ridge Rehabilitation & Care Center, he introduced programs to residents and staff and was loved by all. Surviving are his daughters, Roberta Atkins and husband Stan, formerly of Asheville, now residing in Sunset Beach, NC and Linda Kline of Oakdale, NY.: sons, Harold Asch and wife Bonnie of Lancaster, NY., Richard Asch of San Francisco, CA. and David Asch of New York City, NY.; two grandsons Robert and Barry; two granddaughters, Susan and Lori; nine great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. He loved all his children and family. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Asheville at 1 Edwin Place, with the Rev. Mark Ward officiating.
